Our approach: 

We see it like this: children learn the most when they are involved, allowed to find out, investigate and experience for themselves. 

That is why learning at IKC Sloterdijk goes further than language and math lessons. Further than learning from books that leave little to the imagination and further than everyone doing the same lesson or exercise, even if your child can do more or needs more repetition. 

Children learn a lot here. More than we even think. But not in the traditional way. 

We teach them to think creatively and equip them with everything they need to come up with solutions themselves.

In addition to basic skills and knowledge, children learn here by experiencing and discovering for themselves. We see reading comprehension as the ‘gate to the world’ and good arithmetic (math), weighing and measuring as the start to being able to make and think of things. 
 
The basics are therefore important, but what comes after makes the difference. Finding out for yourself and knowing what you can do. Experiencing how you get information and your own insights. Discovering and processing that. Being able to do this. This is how children learn skills for life. And that is useful. Because what is there now will soon be outdated and no one knows what the future will look like.

The most frequently asked questions in a row: 

If your child is in daycare, it is almost certain that he or she can also go to school. We take this into account in our composition. There are priority rules for your child. You can find more about the registration procedure for primary school here. 

Certainly! If one or more siblings attend our daycare or school, your child will also be given priority.

The registration for school is done by means of the preference form that you receive from the municipality of Amsterdam when your child is 3 years old. You submit this form to your preferred school. You must also do this if your child is already in daycare at IKC Sloterdijk. Your child will therefore not automatically go on to group 1. You can find more about the registration procedure here. 

IKC Sloterdijk (primary school) is officially open since September 2024. We started with children from 0 to 8 years old. This means for the primary school up to group 4. Depending on the number of registrations and the growth of our school, this age will shift. When this is, we do not know yet. As soon as we start with the other groups, we will let you know via this website and our newsletter. So keep an eye on the site and:

A day at school is different every day. We follow the child with our offer and program and consciously do not set everything in advance. Every child follows his or her own learning path with us and therefore his or her own path. During the information meeting you will get an idea of this. You will also see what our location looks like and what special spaces we have, such as our theme rooms for nature, visual arts, music, technology and cooking.

At IKC Sloterdijk, cooperation with parents is essential. Every child is different and customized guidance for your child is therefore important. Because you know your child very well, we continue to talk to you about your child and his or her development and growth. Read here how we view contact and cooperation with parents. 

At IKC Sloterdijk we work with the so-called ‘continuous timetable’. This means that all children stay at school for lunch as standard. School starts at 8:45 and ends at 14:30. After this time, there is still plenty to do for your child, such as after-school care. Activities also take place in Floating Gardens, the building we are in. Keep an eye on our newsletter for this.

Sometimes you want your child to change schools. For example, due to a move or another reason.  

If you want to transfer to IKC Sloterdijk, we would be happy to talk to you, provided there is room in a group. If we do not have a place available at the time of interest, you will hear from us quickly and we will put your child on the waiting list.

The school day starts at 8:45 and ends at 14:15. This applies to all school days: Monday to Friday.

For the holidays, you can follow the national guidelines for the Netherlands-North. We have not yet determined our study days for the schoolyear. As soon as these are known, you will read it here.

Yes. If your child is in daycare or preschool with us, you still need to officially register him or her for primary school. Your child will then have priority over other children when it comes to a place in group 1. Registration is done via an official preference form that you will receive by post from the municipality of Amsterdam. On this page you can find more information about this procedure.
